The average American sits for 13 hours a day. Can you believe that? I am no stranger to the need of getting up and getting moving.
I know I sure can because I am guilty of that. Granted, some days I sit less than this, but since I started working from home I have fallen into that trap of sitting way too much. And by way too much I honestly mean, waaaaay too much.
Sad thing is, some people sit longer than that. If you factor in sitting in transportation to get to work, sitting at their work desk and then they go home to sit at the dinner table and/or sit in front of their television or the computer. The end result is a rise is illnesses such as obesity, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, back and posture problems, wrist pain etc.
For me, the end result was a body riddled with pain due to degenerative disc disease, osteoarthritis, and now a crooked right shoulder which causes a ton of issues on my now crooked body.
Being more active is key to health. A standing desk can help you burn more calories, improve your posture and health. Moving around is also important and some have installed treadmills to walk while they work. The goal is to make sure they get at least the recommended 10,000 steps per day and burn calories. On a treadmill at an easy pace of 1.5-1.8 mph this can easily be accomplished.
How cool is that? I’ve been checking out various standing desk options. I plan to put some sort of standing option in my home. Let me share with you a few of the healthy options I’ve been peaking at.
Luxor Standup Crank Adjustable Desk
Luxor – Luxor Standup-cf60-dw 60-inch Crank Adjustable Stand-up Desk – $429.99, See Site shipping – Available at Overstock.com
I always find fun stuff at Overstock. What I like about this desk is that it has an easy crank and it’s on wheels. That means it’s perfect for someone like me who goes from room to room with a laptop and my camera.
Luxor Stand Up Desk Black
Luxor – Luxor Standup-40-B Stand Up Desk Black – $229.99, See Site shipping – Available at School Outfitters
This option is a sleek black. It is not adjustable, but the price is good for a stand up desk that provides ample space and it moves where you need it to go.
Safco – Xpressions Stand-Up Workstation, 35w x 24-3/4d x 49-1/4h, Frosted/Blac
Safco – Xpressions Stand-Up Workstation, 35w x 24-3/4d x 49-1/4h, Frosted/Blac – $462.99, See Site shipping – Available at Overstock.com
Overstock and I should be BFFs. Seriously. This one is almost my favorite. I love the sleek design and extra space for my notebooks and planners. Even though this isn’t on wheels, I am pretty sure I could change those out. Total DYI here 😉 I’m sure though, for as lightweight is this is, I could easily move it.
Safco – Adjustable Stand-Up Workstation (Rectangle – 49″ Height – Steel, Polyvinyl Chloride PVC – Medium Oak)
Safco – Adjustable Stand-Up Workstation (Rectangle – 49″ Height – Steel, Polyvinyl Chloride PVC – Medium Oak) – $263.94, See Site shipping – Available at Overstock.com
Here’s another option that won’t break the bank. It’s on wheels and has a ton of extra space for all your extras.
LifeSpan Treadmill Desk
Apple – LifeSpan Treadmill Desk, TR1200-DT5, TR1200 DT5, TR1200DT5 TR1200-DT5 – $1499.99, Free shipping – Available at BizChair
Treadmill stations are popping up all over the place. I was reading on a few health sites where a lot of big name companies are providing treadmill desks to their employees. That’s pretty cool.
LifeSpan Treadmill Desk
Apple – LifeSpan Treadmill Desk, TR800-DT7, TR800 DT7, TR800DT7 TR800-DT7 – $1799.99, Free shipping – Available at BizChair
Another great treadmill desk option.
Go Now Fitness – Go Treadmill Desk
Go Now Fitness – Go Treadmill Desk – $349.99, 50.00 shipping – Available at Amazon.com Marketplace
If you already have a treadmill (I do, I do!) then this option might be better for you. This desk attaches right to your treadmill.
I put this bad boy on my Wish List.
Then I found this easy DIY on Pinterest.
I see a project in my future. It just so happens I need to move the treadmill to set up my food photography ‘studio’ because I am tired of using the kitchen table. The treadmill is right in front of the bay window where all this wonderful natural light comes in.
I can put the treadmill in my office. Win-win. I can walk a little bit at a time and build up my endurance. I can save the easier tasks for the treadmill. I have a desktop and a laptop so…yah!
