My Pagan-ish Path: A Journey Through Spirit and Earth

When I was a child, the world spoke to me in whispers—the rustle of leaves, the caw of crows, and the energy of places that seemed alive in ways I couldn’t explain. These moments were small sparks of a fire that would later illuminate my path.
Growing up, I’ve always known that my heritage carried stories within it—Irish and Ojibwe roots from my mother’s side and later discoveries of Scottish and Norse ancestry from my father’s side. My connection to these stories began early when summers spent with my grandparents on their three-acre property in Michigan allowed me to forge bonds with the natural world. Packs of crows became my companions, guides in the woods, and confidants in moments of solitude. By age 12 or 13, I was already diving into tarot cards, moon phases, and spiritual practices. Each book I read and each experience I had revealed new layers of understanding and connection.

Today, my path is a beautiful mosaic of Celtic spirituality, Norse mythology, Druidry, and a deep respect for the natural world. It is not bound by a single tradition, and it reflects my belief that labels are less important than living authentically. I invite you to join me as I explore this journey—its history, practices, and insights—and, perhaps, find connections to your own.

Roots in the Earth: Honoring Ancestry and Heritage

The roots of my spiritual path run deep into my heritage. Knowing my ancestry has always felt like connecting with a wellspring of strength and wisdom. My mother’s Irish and Ojibwe lineage instilled a reverence for nature and a belief in the unseen forces that guide us. Later, uncovering my Scottish and Norse heritage through a DNA test (here are the results of the first one I had done; I also had an Ancestry one done) added a new dimension to my practices, explaining my pull toward Norse mythology and Celtic traditions.

From early on, I resonated with the crows and ravens that often surrounded me. These birds, sacred in both Norse and Celtic traditions, have been powerful symbols of transformation and guidance. Feeding them as a child felt more significant than just an act of kindness; it felt like building a relationship with the spirit of the land and its creatures.

Understanding our ancestry provides a foundation for our spiritual journeys. It’s not just about honoring where we’ve come from but also about discovering the practices and beliefs that resonate most deeply with our souls.

Working With Spirit: Practices and Offerings

My practices have evolved over the years, blending elements from various traditions. Tarot cards were my first love. I remember exploring Celtic tree spreads and connecting them to the rhythms of nature. Astrology and numerology followed, teaching me to see patterns and meanings in the cosmos and in numbers.

Another central element of my path has been my relationship with the moon. Observing its phases has helped me align my intentions and rituals with the ebb and flow of its energy. Spirit-speaking, empathic feelings, and healing practices have also played key roles in my journey, each offering unique tools for self-discovery and connection with others.

Offerings are an essential part of my practice. Whether it’s leaving food for the birds, planting flowers for the fae, or lighting candles to honor ancestors, these small acts are expressions of gratitude and connection. They remind me that spirituality is not just about what we take but also about what we give.

Discovering the Norse Connection

The Norse gods entered my life in unexpected ways. As a child, I was fascinated by mythology—Greek, Roman, and later, Norse. But it wasn’t until I was older that the Norse pantheon truly called to me. Odin, Freyja, and Thor felt like familiar presences, their stories resonating deeply with my experiences and dreams.

One of the most profound moments on my path was a dream I had in 2016. In it, I wandered through a forest, guided by ravens and watched over by wolves. The dream culminated in a powerful encounter with Thor, Freyja, and Odin, who spoke of transformation and purpose. This experience solidified my connection to the Norse pantheon and inspired me to learn more about their ways.

Völva practices, with their focus on seidr (a type of Norse magic), have become an area of deep interest. There is a beautiful overlap between these practices and the traditions of Druidry and Paganism, reflecting the universal threads that run through spiritual paths.

Eclectic and Ever-Evolving: Embracing the Journey

If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that spirituality is not static. Over the years, my path has included explorations of Wicca, Druidry, witchcraft, and even The Satanic Temple. I’ve found value in all of these traditions, taking what resonates and leaving what doesn’t.

Labels often feel limiting, which is why I embrace an eclectic approach. I’ve found that my true home is not in a single tradition but in the interconnectedness of all things. My spirituality is rooted in the natural world, the cycles of life, and the belief in the greater good.

Living authentically means embracing change and growth. It means being open to new experiences and allowing our paths to evolve as we do. For me, that has meant revisiting old practices, exploring new ones, and finding balance between structure and freedom.

A Never-Ending Journey

As I walk this path, I am constantly reminded of the beauty and complexity of life. The lessons I’ve learned from my ancestors, the natural world, and the spiritual traditions I’ve studied have shaped me into who I am today. But the journey is far from over.

There is always more to learn, more to discover, and more to share. Whether it’s the call of the ravens, the wisdom of the moon, or the stories of the gods, I know that each step forward brings me closer to understanding myself and the world around me.
