The Best Boutique Travel Experiences In Charleston: A Visitor’s Guide

Are you looking for more boutique experiences in your adventures? If so, this guide is here to help you. We take a look at some of the best individualised adventures you can have in the city of Charleston, South Carolina.

Here’s what you need to know:

Chez Nous

For a boutique dining experience, you might want to check out the French-themed restaurant Chez Nous. This tiny, pint-sized house on Payne Court is a romantic spot with a menu that changes every day. All the menus are written by hand, and the restaurant offers just two appetisers, two entrees, and two desserts, similar to traditional restaurants you might find in villages in France run by husband-and-wife teams. The food is completely bespoke and original, based on the inspiration of the chefs on that particular day.

The Cobblestones of the French Quarter

Related to this last option, you could also take a tour of the cobblestones in the French Quarter. This area hosts some of the oldest architecture in North America, allowing you to see the way that people used to live.

Start by heading to Chalmers Street and walk along the uneven Bermuda stone cobblestones, which have survived centuries of weathering and hurricanes. Nearby, you’ll see beautiful glass lanterns illuminating properties with stucco walls. As you move through the area, you’ll see remnants of the city’s rich and varied history, including references to the enslaved craftsmen who built part of the city.

The Nickel Hotel

For something more modern, you might want to check out The Nickel Hotel, a new boutique hotel in Charleston. This property offers a luxurious experience with more than 50 individually designed rooms and suites, plus an interior courtyard. There’s a rooftop bar and lounge and plenty of additional space on the property to relax.

Those interested can rent out rooms, suites, or penthouses. Each space in the hotel is thoughtfully appointed with terraces that overlook the lush courtyard, where plenty of food, drink, and cocktails are served day and night.

You might also want to take a trip to Candlefish, a King Street staple. This venue offers candle-making classes and has a fragrance library of more than a hundred custom scents. These allow you to blend your own and create a take-home souvenir to bring with you, crafted with your unique design if you want.

The Avery Research Center

Many people visiting Charleston also go to the Avery Research Centre. This provides an introduction to the African American history of the Lowcountry and the rich Gullah Geechee culture. While the venue does offer regular tours, you can reserve time leafing through the archives and seeing what you find. It’s a great location for bookworms and people who like to do their own independent research.

There you have it, some of the best boutique travel experiences that you can currently have in Charleston. It’s always worth doing your research and seeing what new options have come along. Local entrepreneurs are constantly experimenting with new ideas to thrill patrons like you.
