In a world dominated by digital screens and instant gratification, there is an undeniable charm in reviving the past and cherishing the tangible remnants of bygone eras. November 20, 2023November 20, 2023 Dinner, Healthy Options, Lunch, Recipes, Reviews, Vegetarian

This recipe review was inspired by the Minimalist Baker’s Quick & Easy Crispy Tofu recipe. Times are tough. Food prices keep going up, and yet the wages are not. After losing over 60lb. I knew I needed to mind not only the budget but also the calorie range….

Let the Story In: Why Audiobooks Deserve a Place o Let the Story In: Why Audiobooks Deserve a Place on Your Reading List

There is a particular kind of magic that happens when a voice begins to tell you a story. Not words on a page, not text on a screen, but an actual human voice weaving a narrative into the air around you. Maybe you are curling up under a blanket with a candle flickering on the nightstand, or maybe you are walking through the early morning mist with your earbuds in and a…...

Why Book Ratings Are Subjective (And That’s the Po Why Book Ratings Are Subjective (And That’s the Point)

You've just finished a book that moved you to tears, changed your perspective, or kept you up all night turning pages. Excitedly, you head to Goodreads to share your five-star enthusiasm, only to discover dozens of one-star reviews declaring it the worst book ever written. Your heart sinks a little. Did you miss something? Were you wrong to love it so much? The answer is simpler than you might think: you weren't wrong at all, and neither were they....

Starting Your Journey on a GLP-1? Here Are 18 Book Starting Your Journey on a GLP-1? Here Are 18 Books I Recommend

The first vial of compounded semaglutide in hand, suddenly it hits me really hard. This tiny vial held the medication everyone talks about for weight loss. Yet nobody prepared me for what actually happens next when switching from trizepatide (Zepbound) to semaglutide. For me personally, it felt like a step down. I am no stranger to this med, I actually tried Wegovy first about a year or so before trying Zepbound. At that time, my insurance did not cover these meds, and there were only so many samples available for me....

Being a Dummy Reader Doesn’t Mean You Don’t ‘Get’ Being a Dummy Reader Doesn’t Mean You Don’t ‘Get’ Books

You know that moment when someone asks what you're reading, and you hesitate before answering? Maybe you're deep into a cozy mystery series, a romance novel with a pastel cover, or a young adult fantasy, and you can feel the judgment creeping in before you even speak. There's this unspoken hierarchy in the reading world that suggests some books are more "worthy" than others, and if you're not tackling dense literary fiction or academic texts, you're somehow not a "real" reader. That weight of expectation can turn the simple pleasure of reading into an anxiety-inducing performance....

In Defense of Enjoying Books Without Overthinking In Defense of Enjoying Books Without Overthinking Them

There's a peculiar moment that happens to many readers, usually somewhere between finishing their college degree and joining their third book club: reading stops being fun. What once felt like stepping through a wardrobe into Narnia becomes an anxiety-inducing exercise in literary analysis. You find yourself highlighting passages not because they move you, but because you think you should. You're reading with a mental rubric, scoring character development and narrative structure instead of simply letting the story wash over you. The magic has left the building, and in its place sits a stern professor demanding you justify why you loved that romance novel or feel guilty for skimming the dense philosophical passages in your literary fiction pick....

Magical Thinking vs. Strategic Action: The Libby B Magical Thinking vs. Strategic Action: The Libby Boycott

Witches, we know the power of intention. We know that energy flows where attention goes. But we also know that effective magic requires understanding the systems we're working within.

The book community is calling to boycott Libby over AI content. I understand the impulse—I share the concern. But this is a moment for strategic witchcraft, not reactionary hexes.

Here's the uncomfortable truth: Boycotting Libby curses libraries, not AI publishers.

Libraries are already under siege—budget cuts, book bans, political attacks. They get funding based on usage statistics. When we stop using Libby, we're literally handing ammunition to people who want libraries defunded and closed.
Every digital checkout is a data point proving libraries matter. It's a protection spell for institutions that serve our communities.

The Real Target:
Publishers who create AI content without disclosure
Platforms that don't require transparency
Systems that devalue human creativity
Legislators who won't protect creator rights

Intentional Action Over Impulsive Reaction:
Instead of boycotting, I'm:
📧 Contacting OverDrive demanding clear AI labeling
🏛️ Attending my library board meeting (Feb 15—it's on my calendar)
🌙 Joining Friends of the Library to amplify community voice
💰 Supporting authors directly through purchases & reviews
📚 CONTINUING to use Libby—228 audiobooks last year proved digital access matters
Libby also serves disabled witches, rural practitioners, people without transportation, anyone needing access outside library hours. A boycott doesn't just hurt a corporation—it harms our most vulnerable community members.

Our outer actions should reflect our inner values. I value libraries as sacred community spaces. I value accessibility. I value strategic action over performative gestures.
I can use Libby AND fight for transparency. I can support libraries AND advocate for authors. The universe isn't either/or—it's both/and.
What intentional action will you take? Drop it in the comments. Let's manifest real change together.

I’m Not Deleting or Discontinuing Use of the GoodR I’m Not Deleting or Discontinuing Use of the GoodReads App and Here’s Why

There's a lot of talk lately about deleting GoodReads. I get it. The frustration is real, and the reasons are valid. Yes, it's owned by Amazon. Yes, Jeff Bezos is a billionaire whose wealth and influence raise legitimate concerns. Yes, he supports the current administration—an administration that's cutting funding to public libraries, the very institutions that democratize access to books and literacy. Yes, all of this is deeply problematic....

The E-Reader Research Rabbit Hole That Led Me on t The E-Reader Research Rabbit Hole That Led Me on the Path to Digital Minimalism

How my quest for the perfect reading device became an unexpected lesson in choosing less. Just two weeks ago, I published my commitment to going analog in 2026 - screen-free mornings, physical books, one analog day per week, and an Analog Bag (what I have always called a House Bag) filled with journals and coloring books. I wrote about reclaiming presence, about stepping away from the constant digital noise, about remembering what it feels like to engage with the world through touch and paper and real, tangible things....
